Lindsay Matteson’s Sicilian Old Fashioned

“This is our house old fashioned, which adds Amaro dell’Etna to the classic old fashioned. Amaro dell’Etna is made on the island of Sicily and has a lot of bright orange notes as well as cinnamon and baking spice flavors. The addition of this amaro to an old fashioned adds complexity, which still having the comforting flavors we all love in the cocktail.”

INGREDIENTS 

  • 1.5 ounces Bourbon

  • 0.5 ounces Amaro dell’Etna

  • 0.25 ounces orange-demerara syrup

  • 2 dashes Scrappy’s Aromatic Bitters

Build in an old fashioned glass over ice. Stir. Garnish with an orange twist.

For the Orange-Demerara Syrup

  • 4 ounces orange juice, strained to remove solids

  • 8 ounces demerara sugar

Combine all ingredients over medium heat until the sugar has dissolved. Let cool, then keep refrigerated.
